A plan to establish a transitional presidential council in Haiti is progressing as Haitian parties and coalitions have submitted names to lead the initiative. The aim is to select new leaders for the country through a Haitian-led solution. This move follows a meeting in Jamaica involving Caribbean leaders and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, where Prime Minister Ariel Henry pledged to resign once the council is formed. The council will be tasked with appointing an interim prime minister, organizing general elections, and addressing the current crisis in Haiti, including the dominance of gangs in the capital. Meanwhile, the UN is actively involved in supporting efforts to resolve the situation and provide humanitarian assistance as the country faces ongoing challenges.
