An election recount is taking place in a Russian district where President Vladimir Putin did not win the vote. Reports indicate that one of Putin’s political rivals received ten times more votes, with Communist Party candidate Nikolai Kharitonov getting 763 votes compared to Putin’s 73. The recount was initiated after media attention on the voting tallies and officials believe a data entry error led to inflated results for Kharitonov. This comes after Putin was declared the winner of the presidential election, a result widely seen as predetermined.
