A 23-year-old university student in Taiwan, identified as Zhang, had his legs amputated in an attempt to defraud insurance companies of $1.3 million. Acting on advice from a friend who suffered cryptocurrency trading losses, Zhang soaked his feet in dry ice for over 10 hours to simulate frostbite. The plan failed after medical staff found the injuries suspicious, leading to Zhang’s arrest along with his friend on charges of fraud and serious injury. Incidences of insurance fraud are reportedly rising globally, with authorities taking measures to combat such crimes.
