The Colombian government has approved a plan to recover a sunken ship off the coast of Colombia, believed to be holding billions of dollars worth of treasure. The San Jose galleon, discovered in 2015, is estimated to have the world’s largest sunken treasure, including emeralds, silver, and 200 tons of gold coins. The ship, owned by the Spanish Crown, was sunk by the British Navy in 1708, and only a few crew members survived. Colombia is investing around $4,628 into the archeological recovery using robots. In a related discovery, a 17th-century cannon believed to be from another valuable sunken ship, the Merchant Royal, was found off the English Coast.
