Al Jazeera has condemned a new Israeli law that could shut down its operations in Israel and accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of spreading lies that incite against the safety of the network’s journalists worldwide. The law allows the closure of foreign networks in Israel for content deemed harmful to state security. Netanyahu accused Al Jazeera of supporting Hamas and inciting against Israeli soldiers. The media network denounced Netanyahu’s accusations, calling them dangerous and ludicrous. The Committee to Protect Journalists expressed concern over the law, citing a tightening of press freedom. The White House also found the potential shutdown of Al Jazeera concerning. The law comes as Netanyahu faces criticism for his handling of the conflict in Gaza, where thousands have been killed, including many children and women.
