An American-Israeli soldier, Itay Chen, who went missing during a Hamas attack on Israel, has been confirmed dead by the Israeli military. Chen was stationed at the Gaza Strip border. The family of the 19-year-old soldier had hoped he was among the remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza. New intelligence revealed that Chen’s body was taken to Gaza by Hamas militants after the attack. The Biden administration’s efforts to secure a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas have faced challenges, with Hamas unwilling to agree. Five Americans are still held as hostages in Gaza, according to White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan. President Biden expressed condolences to Chen’s family and pledged to continue working to bring all hostages home.
