Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has expressed concern over the influx of temporary immigrants into the country, stating that the rate at which they are entering needs to be controlled. He mentioned that the number of temporary immigrants has risen significantly, now accounting for 7.5% of the population compared to 2% in 2017. Trudeau emphasized the need to reduce these numbers to relieve pressure on communities. This shift in Trudeau’s stance comes as the impact of increased immigration due to the COVID-19 pandemic has strained various sectors such as housing and healthcare. The Prime Minister’s adjustment in immigration approach aligns with current public opinion and follows a rise in popularity of Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre in opinion polls.
