A State Department official, Annelle Sheline, has resigned, criticizing President Biden’s policies towards Israel and accusing the administration of aiding “a genocide in Gaza.” Sheline, who worked in promoting human rights in the Middle East, explained her resignation in an op-ed, stating she could not represent a government enabling such actions. Despite State Department’s statements about her fellowship, Sheline chose not to return. Her resignation is the most prominent from the department since another official’s departure last year. Some have criticized her for not condemning Hamas, with a pro-Israel activist welcoming her resignation. The Gaza health ministry reports over 32,000 casualties, without distinguishing between civilians and militants.
