Australia has decided to restore funding for the United Nations relief agency for Palestinians, which had been previously withdrawn due to allegations involving Gaza-based staff. This move comes as Foreign Minister Penny Wong expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza. Australia is also increasing aid to Gaza, following in the footsteps of other countries like Sweden and Canada in reinstating support for the agency. The Australian government clarified that based on current information, the UNRWA is not considered a terrorist organization. Additionally, Australia will provide $2.6 million to UNICEF for urgent services in Gaza, and military support to aid in humanitarian efforts in the region.
