President Joe Biden’s administration has overseen more evacuations of U.S. embassies than any other presidential administration in U.S. history, with a total of 11 evacuations since he took office in January 2021. These evacuations have been due to various reasons such as civil unrest, military coups, and terrorist threats in countries like Burma, Chad, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Ukraine, and Nigeria, among others. This includes the recent evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in Haiti as a violent gang war grips the nation. Criticism has been directed at the Biden administration for projecting weakness and indecision in handling these situations, particularly highlighted by the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.
