Two pilots of an Indonesian airline were found to have fallen asleep during a January flight with over 150 people on board. The incident involved a Batik Air Indonesia flight traveling between Kendari and Jakarta. The pilot in command allowed the second pilot, who expressed fatigue, to rest during the first leg of the trip. Later, during the return flight, the second pilot inadvertently fell asleep, causing the plane to veer off course. After being unresponsive for half an hour, the pilots awoke and realigned the aircraft safely. The pilots have been suspended, and recommendations have been made to enhance safety measures, including developing detailed checklists for pilots and improving cockpit check procedures.
