This strategy mirrors Russia’s actions before the 2016 election and represents a potential shift in Beijing’s approach to influencing U.S. politics. Researchers have identified a network of accounts associated with the Chinese government engaging in this behavior, known as Spamouflage, which previously posted pro-Beijing content in Mandarin before switching to English and impersonating American citizens.
