The House and Senate have unveiled the compromise text of the fiscal 2024 defense spending bill amounting to $825 billion. The bill adheres to last year’s imposed spending caps and includes funding for eight battleships, numerous aircraft, and provisions for Ukraine military aid. The legislation also introduces multiyear contracts for crucial munitions and boosts funding for the Pentagon’s Defense Innovation Unit. Additionally, the bill decreases funding for the Defense Department civilian workforce while omitting various amendments proposed by Republicans.
