An American woman, Gail Mattson, tragically died in Zambia’s Kafue National Park after an elephant attacked the safari vehicle she was in. The incident was captured on a harrowing cellphone video. Mattson, a 79-year-old Minnesotan, was on a month-long vacation when the attack occurred. Wilderness Safaris, the tour operator, expressed condolences and mentioned that other American tourists were also injured in the incident. Despite efforts to move the vehicle to safety, the elephant could not be deterred in time. Mattson was taken to a hospital in South Africa but succumbed to her injuries. The Kafue National Park, where the incident took place, is known for being home to various iconic African animal species.
