The European Parliament is investigating allegations that some of its members were paid by a Russian propaganda network recently uncovered by Czech authorities. Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo revealed that Russian operatives approached EU lawmakers to promote propaganda in Europe. The Parliament is working with its partners to address the accusations. Various political groups, including the Greens, are calling for thorough investigations and severe consequences for politicians involved. The operation involved the news company Voice of Europe, which has been sanctioned by the Czech Republic. Investigations are extending to politicians from several European countries. The European Commission expressed concerns about Russian influence through dubious outlets. Voice of Europe, central to the investigation, had close access to the European Parliament and its members. Renw Europe is requesting the suspension of Voice of Europe’s access to Parliament and EU-wide sanctions on the company. Parliamentary groups and the president have not yet responded to the allegations.
