The European Union is allocating over half a billion euros to local ammunition firms to increase shell production and reach an output of two million shells per year by 2025. This funding aims to support Ukraine against Russia’s invasion by improving the supply of shells. The EU has acknowledged a shortfall in shell deliveries and is implementing a plan with three phases, with the latest involving €513 million to enhance production facilities. Investments will focus on explosives and powder production, with hopes to significantly increase output. Several EU countries are involved in the initiative, but some are concerned that funds are being diverted from the European Defense Fund, impacting long-term defense industry development.
