Russia is producing nearly three times more artillery munitions than the US and Europe, creating a significant advantage ahead of a potential Russian offensive in Ukraine. Moscow is currently making about 250,000 artillery munitions monthly, while the US and Europe together can only produce around 1.2 million annually for Ukraine. The US military’s goal of 100,000 rounds per month by 2025 is now out of reach due to stalled funding. Russian artillery production is seen as crucial in the conflict, with Russia firing significantly more shells daily than Ukraine. Despite Western efforts to catch up, including plans for ammunition factories in Ukraine and Europe, the gap remains vast. While Russia’s economy has shifted to prioritize defense over oil, long-term imbalances may arise. The outcome in Ukraine depends on munitions availability, and additional US aid could alter the situation significantly.
