French ground army chief of staff, General Pierre Schill, has affirmed that France’s land forces are prepared to respond to any threat, including the toughest engagements. This assurance comes amidst discussions of potentially dispatching ground troops to aid Ukraine against Russia. General Schill emphasized that the French army is ready to react to evolving international situations, with a strong display of military capabilities to deter potential attacks. He underscored the importance of readiness by quoting the Latin adage “si vis pacem, para bellum” – “if you want peace, prepare for war”. General Schill outlined France’s capacity to engage troops swiftly within coalitions and highlighted the risks associated with multiplying crisis sources. French President Macron’s escalating stance against Russian President Putin, labeling him a threat to European security, coincides with France’s blame on Russia for cyberattacks. Despite Macron not ruling out sending Western ground troops and deeming the Ukraine war as existential for Europe, concerns persist among French officials regarding potential equipment and ammunition shortages in prolonged conflicts.
