A giant anaconda was found dead in the Brazilian Amazon, possibly killed by a gunshot wound, as reported by a Dutch researcher. The snake, not the largest anaconda discovered, was identified as a southern green anaconda. The snake, named Ana Julia, measured 26 feet and weighed around 440 pounds. While it is uncertain if it was shot, the incident is regarded as a tragedy akin to shooting a panda. Researchers aim to monitor green anaconda reproduction to assess the ecosystem’s well-being, amidst concerns over pollutants like cadmium and lead in the Amazon.
