An international arms embargo on Israel has gained support from various countries, including calls at the United Nations for such action. Despite this, major arms suppliers to Israel, the United States and Germany, have not backed the move. The United States and Germany provide nearly all imported weapons to Israel, with the US supplying about 69% and Germany around 30% of Israel’s arms. The movement seeks to leverage arms supply to enforce demands for specific actions regarding civilian harm and aid access in conflict areas. While certain European nations have paused arms sales to Israel, a UN resolution calling for an embargo is nonbinding and unlikely to impact arms sales practically. Although calls for an embargo persist, significant challenges remain, including the need for consensus among key nations.
