Gunmen attacked a group of people in Ecuador’s Guayaquil city, killing nine and injuring 10. This incident is part of a series of violent events in Ecuador. The attack occurred in Guasmo on Saturday evening when gunmen opened fire on individuals practicing sports. Just a day earlier, five kidnapped individuals were killed execution-style in Manabi province. The President, Daniel Noboa, referred to these events as reminders of the ongoing battle against narcoterrorism. Ecuador has recently experienced a rise in violent attacks, prompting the declaration of a state of emergency in January, which involves heightened security measures and curfews in certain areas. The country’s violent death rate has exceeded 40 per 100,000 inhabitants, making it one of the highest in the region.
