Haiti is facing a worsening crisis as violent gangs control over 80% of the capital Port-au-Prince and the country’s most notorious gang leader, Jimmy “Barbecue” Chérizier, has called for Prime Minister Ariel Henry to resign. The situation in Haiti is a major concern for its neighbors in the Caribbean, as well as for the US, which is now grappling with how to respond and assist the country during this period of escalating violence and lawlessness.
