White House National Security Advisor confirmed the death of Hamas’ second-in-command Marwan Issa in an Israeli air strike. President Biden urged Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for a clear strategy to end the war and criticized plans to invade Rafah. The death of Issa is the highest-ranking leader casualty in the conflict since October 7. Biden emphasized Israel’s right to go after Hamas but expressed concerns over civilian casualties and called the planned ground operation a mistake. Discussions between the U.S. and Israel are ongoing about ending the conflict, while Western leaders are advocating for a ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. Over 31,000 Palestinians have died since the conflict started.
