Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for launching a cruise missile from the Red Sea into Israel’s territory near Eilat. This marks the first direct projectile strike by the Iranian-backed group on Israeli soil. The militants state that these attacks are in solidarity with Palestinians amid the conflict with Israel. Previously, their missiles from Yemen targeted neighboring countries or were intercepted. The Houthi rebels also fired on a tanker, although mistakenly identified, disrupting global shipping. In response, American and British navies led strikes against the rebels to protect international waters and ships. The conflict is part of the ongoing civil war in Yemen, with the UN emphasizing the need for a permanent ceasefire to halt such attacks.
