A ship named Open Arms departed from Cyprus for Gaza with 200 tonnes of food supplies, launching a maritime aid corridor backed by Cyprus, the EU, the UK, and the US due to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The ship’s arrival brought hope to Gazans, with aid agencies warning of an impending famine. The EU authorized this aid, the first direct delivery to Gaza since 2005, as Israel has imposed a blockade for years. Open Arms’ partner World Central Kitchen is constructing a dock for unloading. Israel approved the aid corridor, with plans for a temporary port to provide meals in Gaza. Despite challenges, efforts are underway to deliver additional aid by sea and air, although overland access remains crucial.
