A recent study from Hungary, published in the science journal Current Biology, has found evidence that dogs may possess a form of referential understanding, allowing them to associate words with specific objects. The study involved 18 dogs and used electrodes to measure brain activity, showing that dogs exhibit different brain patterns when shown objects that match the words they hear. While some experts remain skeptical, the findings suggest that dogs may have an innate capacity for understanding language beyond mere commands.
