A volcano erupted for the fourth time in three months in southwestern Iceland, sending lava towards the town of Grindavik and leading to evacuations, including at the popular Blue Lagoon geothermal spa. The eruption formed a 1.8-mile-long fissure, with lava flowing towards the ocean at a pace of 0.62 mph. The Icelandic police declared a local state of emergency as the eruption is considered the largest in the area in recent times. Despite the activity, the closest airport remained open, and flights were unaffected.
