The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for a terror attack at a Moscow concert venue that killed at least 139 people. The attack was linked to ISIS’s outpost in the historical Khorasan region, encompassing parts of Central Asia. ISIS-K, an offshoot group, is known for its distinct grievances with the Taliban and Russia. While the exact involvement of ISIS-K in the attack is unclear, the incident highlights the group’s continued threat. ISIS, formed post-US invasion in Iraq, aims to establish a global caliphate. ISIS-K, founded in opposition to the Taliban, has been active since 2014 and poses a significant danger, coordinating attacks and showing capabilities. The terror threat remains high, especially in Europe, despite increased security measures by Western countries.
