Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to take immediate action to shut down Al Jazeera’s operations in the country following the approval of a law granting senior ministers the power to close foreign news networks considered a security threat. The law, passed with a 70-10 vote in the Knesset, allows for the shutdown of foreign networks operating in Israel if they are believed to harm national security. Netanyahu has accused Al Jazeera of anti-Israel bias and has a history of trying to halt its broadcasts. This move comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel, Al Jazeera, and recent protests against Netanyahu’s handling of security issues during the conflict with Gaza.
