A Japanese solid-fueled rocket named Kairos exploded just seconds after its inaugural launch by private firm Space One in western Japan. The rocket was carrying an experimental government satellite. The flight was terminated due to a problem triggering the autonomous flight-termination system. Space One, founded in 2018, aims to be a low-cost space launch provider. No injuries were reported, and the cost of the launch was not disclosed. This setback is the latest in Japan’s space ambitions, with previous incidents affecting JAXA’s activities as well.
