Belarusian President Lukashenko has contradicted Russia’s claims implicating Ukraine in the recent attack at a Moscow concert hall, where ISIS claimed responsibility for the deaths of at least 139 people. Despite Russian President Putin’s allegations of Ukrainian involvement, Lukashenko stated the attackers aimed to enter Belarus, but were deterred by heightened security measures. The suspects, from Tajikistan, were apprehended near the Ukraine-Belarus border. Putin accused the attackers of associating with “radical Islamists” and continued to blame Ukraine, while other Russian officials supported these claims. Lukashenko’s actions to prevent the attackers from entering Belarus have raised doubts about Putin’s accusations.
