Mexico has decided to sever diplomatic relations with Ecuador following Ecuadorian police entering the Mexican embassy in Quito to arrest a former Ecuadorian vice president seeking asylum there. The vice president, Jorge Glas, faces corruption and bribery charges and has been residing in the embassy since December. Mexico condemned the embassy breach by Ecuadorian authorities and is taking the matter to the International Court of Justice. tensions between the countries escalated further when Ecuador declared the Mexican ambassador persona non grata following comments made by Mexico’s president about Ecuador’s recent elections.
