Israel’s war cabinet has decided to open the Erez border crossing to allow more aid into Gaza following a call between President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Biden warned that U.S. policy towards Israel may change if more aid is not allowed and noncombatants are not protected. The conflict escalated when Hamas militants launched a cross-border attack on Israel, leading to a ground invasion by Israel. This has resulted in significant displacement and casualties in Gaza. Despite pressure to allow more humanitarian aid, Israel has resisted. The U.S. supports Israel with weapons and aid packages, despite tensions between some U.S. politicians and Netanyahu. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict’s roots are complex and date back to before Israel’s establishment in 1948.
