The State Department is experiencing widespread dissent and unhappiness among staff over President Joe Biden’s policy on Gaza, particularly concerning the US’s support for Israel in the ongoing conflict. The killing of seven international aid workers by Israeli airstrikes has intensified criticism within the department. Despite internal opposition and dissent memos, there have been only two public resignations so far. Former officials and resignees have highlighted a significant gap between the State Department’s analysis and recommendations regarding Gaza and the decisions made by the White House. The administration is facing pressure to reconsider its unwavering support for Israel amidst the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. President Biden has warned Israel that future US policy will depend on protecting aid workers and civilians in Gaza, following the deadly attack on the aid workers.
