The holy fasting month of Ramadan began for many of the world’s 1.8 billion Muslims as Saudi authorities spotted the crescent moon on Sunday night. This period, marked by abstaining from food and water from dawn to dusk, is a time of reflection and giving for Muslims worldwide. However, this year’s Ramadan faces challenges with ongoing violence in the Middle East, including Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza, as well as inflation and high food prices around the world since the pandemic. Despite these obstacles, Muslims are encouraged to focus on acts of charity during the holy month.
