Nearly 300 Nigerian schoolchildren have been released after being kidnapped in Kaduna state. This incident is part of a larger trend with over 1,400 students abducted from Nigerian schools since 2014. Recent rescues also included 17 children in Sokoto state. The government coordinated the rescue operations, and although no group has claimed responsibility for the kidnappings, bandit groups in the region are suspected. Ransoms are often paid despite officials denying it. Arrests in such cases are rare, and victims are usually released after payments are made.
