Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to send a team of officials to Washington to discuss a potential operation in Rafah with the Biden administration. The White House is cautious about the plan and has urged Netanyahu not to proceed without a credible strategy to ensure the safety of innocent Palestinians. Biden and Netanyahu’s recent conversation highlighted their disagreements over how to handle the conflict in Gaza, with Biden emphasizing the need for a coherent approach to defeat Hamas while avoiding civilian casualties and worsening the humanitarian crisis. The situation escalated further with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticizing Netanyahu’s actions and calling for new elections in Israel. Despite tensions, progress has been made in degrading Hamas, with recent Israeli operations targeting key Hamas figures. In response to the dire food crisis in Gaza, the U.S. military is providing aid and increasing access to the territory. The conflict, which began after a surprise attack by Hamas-led militants, has resulted in a significant loss of life and mass displacement in Gaza.
