A recent report by IQAir revealed that only seven countries and three territories met the World Health Organization’s pollution guidelines for fine particulate matter in 2023. These included Australia, Estonia, Finland, Grenada, Iceland, Mauritius, and New Zealand, with the United States ranking 33rd. The US Environmental Protection Agency has implemented stricter standards for particle pollution, recognizing the severe health risks associated with PM 2.5 exposure, such as heart attacks and premature death. Despite these measures, countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India continue to face dangerously high levels of particulate pollution, highlighting the global impact of air quality on public health.
