The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command has requested $11 billion more from Congress than what the White House proposed in its fiscal 2025 defense budget. The funding would mainly be used for building infrastructure for U.S. forces in the region, classified space programs, munitions, and Guam defenses. The aim is to increase the U.S. presence in the region as a deterrent to China. The largest portion of the funding requested is for military construction in the Indo-Pacific region. Other allocations include money for military campaigns, classified space programs, and procurement of various missiles for different branches of the military. The request is seen as crucial to bridge the reported funding gap for fiscal year 2025. The total amount needed for the year is estimated at $26.5 billion, with $15 billion already in the Pentagon’s base budget request.
