Russia’s defence ministry has announced a series of “massive” air strikes against Ukraine in retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on its border regions. The strikes were in response to alleged shelling of Russian territory and attempts to seize border settlements. The attacks targeted Ukraine’s energy sector, military-industrial complex, and other strategic locations. Ukrainian officials reported significant damage and casualties from Russian strikes, including a missile attack on the capital Kyiv and an attack on the city of Kharkiv. The escalation follows armed raids by pro-Kyiv militias into Russian territory and increased hostilities along the border.
