A suicide truck bomb and gun attack on a regional army base near the Afghan border in North Waziristan, Pakistan has resulted in the death of at least seven soldiers, including two officers. The assault by six militants, allegedly linked to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), led to injuries to over 17 soldiers. The Pakistani Prime Minister condemned the attack as an act of terrorism. Pakistani forces engaged and killed the assailants, with a group allied to TTP claiming responsibility. TTP and its affiliates are accused of using Afghan sanctuaries to attack Pakistan. The violence is part of a surge in TTP-led attacks since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in 2021. The Taliban deny allegations of harboring militant groups, despite reports suggesting otherwise. The United Nations has raised concerns about terrorist groups, including TTP, operating in Afghanistan, with fears growing due to the increased militant activity in Pakistan.
