A man in England, Nicholas Hawkes, has been sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison for cyberflashing, sending unsolicited explicit photos to a teenage girl and a woman. This marks the first conviction under the Online Safety Act. Hawkes, a convicted sex offender, sent the photos via messaging apps, prompting the victims to report him to the police. The law criminalises sending sexual images without consent online. Despite Hawkes’ argument of post-traumatic stress, the judge noted his disturbing behavior.
