A diaper manufacturer in Japan is making a strategic shift from producing infant diapers to adult diapers due to declining birth rates. Oji Holdings’ subsidiary, Oji Nepia, has seen a drop in demand for infant diapers, with the elderly population in Japan using more diapers than infants. The company will cease infant diaper production in Japan to focus on products for older people and expand its infant diaper production in Malaysia and Indonesia where demand is increasing. The decision comes as Japan faces record-low birth rates, falling from 1.17 million in 2001 to 758,631 in 2023.
