After the Russian invasion in February 2022, Ukraine’s President declared martial law and mobilized conscripts. Photographer Polly Braden documented Ukrainian women fleeing to Moldova and depicted their struggles to build new lives as refugees in a project called “Leaving Ukraine.” The exhibition sheds light on women’s roles in conflict, following six women and their families over two years in various European countries. It highlights the challenges they face, emphasizing the importance of individual stories in understanding the impact of war and displacement.
