A British court has ruled that Julian Assange cannot be extradited to the United States on espionage charges unless U.S. authorities provide assurances that he will not face the death penalty. This decision marks a partial victory for the WikiLeaks founder after a long legal battle. The ruling states that Assange, an Australian national, must be given the same protections as a U.S. citizen under the First Amendment. The court will grant Assange a new appeal if the U.S. authorities do not provide further guarantees within three weeks. The legal proceedings will continue, and Assange will remain in London’s Belmarsh Prison.
