The UK financial regulator has softened its stance on digital assets, allowing the listing of bitcoin and ethereum-backed exchange traded notes for professional investors on the London Stock Exchange from April. This decision has contributed to the rise in prices of bitcoin and ethereum. The UK had previously banned crypto-related derivatives but has now permitted certain crypto-linked securities, aligning itself with other major markets such as the US, EU, Australia, and Canada. Retail consumers, however, are still not able to purchase these securities due to concerns over risks. The securities must be held in offline storage vaults and comply with anti-money laundering rules in various jurisdictions.
