Ukraine carried out a significant attack on Russian targets using drones and rockets, causing serious damage to a major oil refinery. The attack aimed to penetrate Russia’s borders with armed proxies. Both countries have utilized drones to target critical infrastructure and military installations during their lengthy conflict. Russia claimed Ukrainian proxies attempted to breach the border, which Ukraine denied. The intense drone attacks led to the downing of multiple Ukrainian drones over various Russian regions. The assault also resulted in damage to Russian energy facilities, notably the Lukoil NORSI refinery. The refinery’s production was significantly impacted by the attack. The strikes on Russian oil facilities pose challenges for President Putin amid tensions over Ukraine and domestic oil prices. While Russia is rich in energy resources, it relies on Western technology for oil extraction and refining. Russia reported thwarting Ukrainian incursions in border regions and engaging in heavy fighting. The conflict continues despite Russian military efforts, and Ukraine allegedly launched rockets at Russian territories. Additionally, Germany is considering reinstating conscription by 2025, inspired by Nordic countries.
