Ukraine carried out a significant overnight attack on the Crimean port of Sevastopol, hitting two Russian naval vessels and various military facilities. The attack, which was the most massive in recent times according to a Russian politician, resulted in large explosions and one confirmed casualty. Ukrainian forces targeted other sites in Crimea as well. Despite Russia’s military dominance on the ground, Ukraine has had success in damaging Russia’s Black Sea Fleet through missile strikes and sea drone attacks. More than 20 Russian naval vessels have been disabled or destroyed, weakening Russia’s naval capabilities in the region. This attack not only has military implications but also benefits Ukraine economically by securing a shipping corridor for its exports.
