Ukraine’s largest private energy firm, DTEK, has suffered significant damage in the ongoing conflict with Russia, resulting in the loss of 80% of its generating capacity. Repairing the damage could take up to 18 months. Ukrainian President Zelenskiy condemned Russia for targeting the country’s energy infrastructure. Meanwhile, France has pledged to provide Ukraine with armoured vehicles and anti-aircraft missiles to support its defence against Russia. The UK Ministry of Defence reports that Russia holds a significant advantage over Ukraine in terms of military resources. Paris mayor Hidalgo declared that Russian and Belarusian athletes are unwelcome at the upcoming Paris Olympics due to the conflict. In response, Moscow criticized the International Olympic Committee’s restrictions on Russian athletes. Polish Prime Minister Tusk warned that Europe is on the brink of war and called for increased defense investments. Lastly, foreign diplomats in Russia paid respects to the victims of a recent terrorist attack in Moscow, while a Russian journalist covering dissent faces extremism charges and remains in custody.
