The Ukrainian government successfully converted a locally-made ultralight sport plane, the Aeroprakt A-22, into an explosive drone by replacing the manned controls with robotic controls and loading it with explosives. The drone was used in a deep strike on Russia’s strategic industries. The drone is cost-effective at $90,000 and has a range of 600 miles. This transformation allows the drone to deliver explosives accurately and may mark the beginning of more attacks using this drone type. The A-22 drone, resembling a slow cruise missile, is scalable and cost-efficient for the Ukrainian military.
